We have been discussing with the Environment Agency (EA) over the last year about utilising some of their ringed fenced funds to carry out works to the trees on the top stretch and small scale restoration on the Low Road part of the fishery. We have also been fighting for the continuation of the barbel stocking.

As from the 7th April 2016, a new Wensum Working Group has been set up with the EA to focus on small scale projects on the fisheries along the Wensum, of which we are a part. Already, a number of roach spawning boards (same as the Avon Roach Project) have been constructed with more planned in the near future. On the barbel front, the EA are looking to carry out riffle and boat based surveys to try and locate older age classes of tagged barbel and complete collation of monitoring data and review of the barbel stocking protocol.

We would be grateful for any information/ catch returns for barbel, roach, chub etc to help us obtain evidence on numbers and weight for continued discussions with the EA.

We would also be grateful if members would consider giving us email addresses. This helps us to reduce postage costs and re-allocate funds elsewhere and also eradicate problems with mail not being received. It is not our intention to bombard you with regular updates via email, just help with yearly renewals and any important fishery news.

If you require any further information or details regarding the fishery please contact us via our email at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

Kind regards

Andrew Morris (Membership Secretary)
