Colney Lake

At first Colney 1 lake appears to be the largest lake on the fishery and quite a challenge, however at around 28 acres it is actually smaller than Lodge Farm lake and quite a prolific fishery.

The lake averages around 12 feet in depth but has many bars and shallow areas to be found, some of which can become quite weedy through out the summer months

Carp from Colney 1Many of the stocked Carp now range over 30lb with many more in the upper 20's, however the lake is famed for being the home of 'Kens Fish' one of the 'original' carp of the lake which stays around the 40lb mark every year and is always eagerly sought after by many anglers.

The lake was stocked in 1997 with around 110 carp from the Environment Agency many of them commons which now reach between mid 20's to 30 a further 60 mirror carp from Richard Simmonds were introduced in 2000.

And Colney 1 is home to "Kens" fish a much sought after mirror which regularly tops the 40 lb mark

All the lakes at Bawburgh Fishery are very rich in natural food sources and have a low Bio-mass of fish however it is Colney 1 that has shown its self to be a genuine big fish water, producing some truly huge Bream to 18.12, and massive tench to 11.09, along with pike to 31.07 and perch to 3.00.ge b
