NACA News and Events

Obituary

Its is with great saddness that we announce the death of Mr Roy Church on Thursday 18th August 2016 following a long illness.

Roy our vice president, honory member and former Chairman of the association and BASG served the association with great enthusiasm for many years and played an important role in establishing NACA as a highly regarded organisation in the region that promoted angling and conservation awareness. He was to support many of NACA early success's and with his direct no nonsense approach and acute political awareness was a force to be reckoned with as he tackled EA officials, politicians and DEFRA civil servants alike.
However over a pie and pint he would equally chat happily over his school days, time on the tea plantations in India, favorite lures or his highly enjoyed trips back to remote parts of India fishing for mahseer.
Roy was a proud dignified man he will be very sadly missed by his family his friends and by all who had the privelidge to know him within the association.

NACA Fisheries - Ketteringhams 2016-17

The river Wensum is producing its best fishing for several years and offers NACA members a fantastic opportunity to fish this most iconic river during the 2016-17 season and is available for NACA members to join now.

This beautiful restored stretch of the river Wensum in the heart of the Wensum valley was once the historic home of Norfolk barbel and still holds the odd double figure fish along with chub to 6lb's and roach to 2lb plus.

Situated below the village of Costessey downstream of the weir winds this superb stretch of the River Wensum. The upper reaches of restored chalk stream habitat certainly provides a rich diverse environment for our members to enjoy an excellent days fishing whether you are trotting for roach or dace along one of the many tempting glides, or stalking a wary barbel or large Wensum chub from a classic river swim. While a further mile of slower un restored river along Low Road Drayton provides a real challenge for the roving angler.

NACA's ground breaking habitat restoration project at Costessey now provides one of the most renowned restored parts of this famous river and one which the Association is very proud of.

Juvenile barbel were still being introduced until recently to the river as part of NACA,WFAP,Environment agencies stocking program however it is the chub fishing which currently draws many of our members to the fishery with catches of five to six pound chub in perfect condition regularly taken and with the mouth watering prospect of a stunning double figure Wensum barbel or two pound plus roach still to be caught from this historic fishery this has to be one of the top stretches to fish on the Wensum and is available to join for members of Norfolk Anglers Conservation Association.

The fishery has limited members allowing plenty of room to roam the banks to your favoured swim and has permits available now so its the perfect time to register your application to join this most iconic river Wensum fishery. Dikerogammarus 'Killer Shrimp' update Autumn 2012

Shrimp ReportA recent Shrimp report update from the Environment Agency has shown low level contamination in Wroxham Broad NACA again wants to advise all anglers either local or visiting this area to understand the dangers of the Killer Shrimp and how best to help stop its spread. Further notes can be read here.

Please follow the link to the Check Clean Dry leaflet and to download the poster.

Further information can also be found on the Broads Authority website

We urge all anglers and water users to take this campaign seriously because once the shrimp is present in a water body there is no known way to eradicate it, over time it will have a devastating impact on our aquatic Eco systems that will seriously effect the fisheries and the environment we enjoy as anglers.

Don't be the angler to introduce the Shrimp to your water !
